Zejtun Malta

Traditional southern olive town

A large southern town named after its olive-growing heritage — affordable property, strong traditions, and one of Malta's finest baroque church facades.

Walkability
Moderate. Town centre walkable. Spread-out residential areas require a car.
Parking
Good. Ample street parking. Easier than central Malta.
Noise
Low. Quiet residential atmosphere. Festa season (June) generates fireworks for several days.
Transport
Moderate. Buses to Valletta (25–30 min) and Marsaskala.

Zejtun's annual olive festival celebrates the town's namesake crop with olive oil tasting, traditional pressing demonstrations, and local food. The town was the site of the last pitched battle on Maltese soil — in 1799, Maltese insurgents fought French forces here during the blockade of Valletta. The church's bells reportedly melted during a festa fire in the 1800s and were recast using coins donated by every household.
