Tiny fortified peninsula community
The smallest of Malta's Three Cities — a tiny fortified peninsula with the Grand Harbour's best viewpoint and authentic community life.
Senglea earned the title Citta Invicta — 'Unconquered City' — after resisting the Ottoman siege of 1565. It's the only Maltese city never to have been captured. The town was almost completely destroyed by WWII bombing but was meticulously rebuilt. The carved face on the Gardjola watchtower, with its single eye and ear, is one of Malta's most reproduced symbols.
