Kappara's name comes from the Maltese word for caper bush — kappar — which grew abundantly on the hillside before development. Caper bushes still sprout from limestone walls throughout the neighbourhood, their pink-and-white flowers blooming each summer as a reminder of what the hillside looked like before the houses arrived.
