The Eye of Osiris painted on every luzzu's bow is one of the oldest surviving superstitions in the Mediterranean — a Pharaonic symbol that predates Christianity by millennia and has been continuously used by Maltese fishermen for over 2,000 years. Marsaxlokk's harbour was a landing site for the Ottoman fleet during the Great Siege of 1565 and the French fleet under Napoleon in 1798.
