Fgura is one of the few Maltese towns without medieval roots — it developed entirely in the 20th century as post-war housing expanded. Its name derives from the Maltese word for 'figure', possibly referring to old roadside shrines that once marked the area. The town's festa in August features a fireworks display that rattles windows across three neighbouring towns.
