Mnajdra temple is aligned so precisely that on the spring and autumn equinoxes, sunlight passes through the main doorway and illuminates a stone slab at the back of the inner chamber — a 5,000-year-old astronomical calendar still working perfectly. The alignment was discovered by a local teacher in the 1990s, proving that Malta's temple builders had sophisticated knowledge of solar movements.
